It's no coincidence that the title of this webpage is Chypted. It's meant to be a play off of China + Egypt, some of the world's oldest continuous civilizations. It was a neat thought, I put it on, and now permanent. So thoughts on the conflict:
I'm for the ouster of their current president.
People here have asked what the US can do.
The US has leverage in these ways:
1) The international aid to Egypt's military. Have the US demand for new elections or the aid will be cut, then Egypt's pres will listen (his only remaining auth. is w/ the military).
2) Recognize the people's need for change. Diplomatic recognition can go a long way in politics. Other nations will follow the US lead, and the people of Egypt will be galvanized after given international legitimacy.
3) Military force. The US has enough covert operations around the world to assassinate any rogue leader of a nation. This...excludes Bin Laden.
Take word, before the protests happened, the Egyptians had much respect for Obama. He gave a speech there and the people loved him. The Egyptian people clearly want some form of US/international recognition. It's funny how the US once called for democracy in the Middle East and when it finally arrived, the US gets all queasy in the tummy.
