Medical Guild

In the US; no. MD's are worth their weight because the AMA is one of the strongest unions/guilds in the US. It will be another 50 or so years before the IBM Watson is allowed into the common medical room.

Pharmacists are not replaceable in the sense that it requires actual people to study / develop / produce new drugs. The Pharm union wised up earlier once they realized the PharmD program in 6 years was diluting their pay.

Basically in the US; the medical industry is run like a guild. They will defend their profits in industry to the death.

With Pharmacists they compete with out of country generics. With doctors, they bar every fucking qualified competitor (even those from the UK; trained at Oxford or those from Canada/McGill)

You're joking. There's a shortage of medical doctors now (for the retiring baby boomers) and the AMA is putting the focus on the evil HMOS. What a fucking joke of a country we live in.
