I don't believe I'm any more conservative than the past. Yeah, I mean I've shed all my conceptions that socialism can be at all viable except for fields which should not generate huge profits like in the field of healthcare.
I understand that a there should be a compromise between state intervention and entirely free enterprise. We should have not entirely free trade, but free trade with countries which uphold law. We should have some sort of payout-auditing system for providing healthcare (like Medi-Care), but not an institution where the government directs all forms of hiring and execution (the VA).
As for social issues, I've realized the importance of the institution of marriage, that while couples are locked together, it more or less prevents from alpha predator men from sleeping with an entire cast of women.
And likewise, I have a deeper understanding for the role of religion, the merit of (American) Protestantism in it's ability to shape America's very litigious-lawsuit-law abiding by the "book" culture. That in itself is a privileged the rest of the world does not have, where they can turn a blind eye to corruption, kickbacks, and European udges who let Islamic terrorists (no joke in 2016) free for violent crime.
